We are working on making it so that every member can sell their board designs via a store, and we would handle the one-off printing. You would have control over all the back end stuff and price. Boardpusher currently offers something similar, and they charge the store owner 45 dollars, so they make 5 dollars per board. And as you know the quality is far from great.
Depending on our final cost per board, if you choose to set the price at the minimum (50 dollars) you would make around 10 dollars. But you would have the option to make the price as high as you wanted and restrict quantities. And you would be getting the best quality board out there.
This obviously is a big endeavor, and we want your input and feedback on how to go about this and features. It is for your added benefit and exposure, as much as ours.
Also, as far as how this will effect the contest. Decks that would be sold on the store would be ineligible for the contest. Once a deck had been entered in the contest and not won, it could then be sold on your store

I like the idea although it seems too similar to boardpusher. But I definitley think it would be better on this site because popdeck is becoming more popular which would be of great advantage to the site. I think this would work out great!
One question..would we have to pay for the store to be up?
Just in time! I have a board pusher account and was just going to work on getting some stuff on there. This is great news! can’t wait! Allot of work goes into those designs and it will be great to be able to offer them here.
What about wheels?
The stores would be free of charge. Layout and style of the store would be much better. Payouts would be better and as you can guess quality would be superb.
brilliant idea.
you should invite some of the artists here to help launch it- give them discount to encourage them to start opening shops etc and drive fans/traffic your way
awesome idea- i will be ordering a deck as soon as you have it up guys!!
great great great, but I would like to see some quality control on your end popdeck, similar to what Lafraise has, i think that would be fair?
true that
i cant wait to do this, better artists would be here
such as godmachine, and the guys of emptees!
cant wait!
nice
So how would this work?
We upload our file and it becomes available in the store. A customer comes along and pays $50+ for a board. We then would get a check for $10. No initial fee on our part but just upload the board art and receive checks?
yeah i dont get it either…
look, you would open a shop, you can buy your own decks for 50 bux, if someone else gets it, then u make 10 bux (or difference from 50 bux)
Each of you would have a personal store through our site. You could upload designs and then promote your designs yourselves or just get exposure through our site. If a design of yours is bought, you get a certain amount based on what price you set.
what would be the shipping time from when a customer purchase to when they receive the board?
Obviously customized layout to theme it out to our home sites. It would be nice to have some kind of incentivized payout. Like if you sell XX number of boards you get a better rate. When you roll out the T-shirts, Shoes and Wheels we’d want to plug n play
There would be no fees to use the store also. In addition, early adapters would be featured.
@los – order to in the fedex truck would be 2 weeks on average.
@Artonio – you will be able to do custom headers/background. Also, we haven’t worked out all the details, but for arguments sake lets say it was a 50/50 split. If you sold XX number of boards per month, it would move to a 40/60 split (for you) and so on.
cool!
sounds dope so if there are 50 boards who fits the bill if they don’t sell.
I think cojonudo the idea, but I think you should take certain steps to follow in order to have something for sale with a minimum of quality.
The free store is similar to Cafepress and they are doing very well with it. They offer a “pro” store for a cost and you get more products. Offer wheels and you would have a big step up on Boardpusher. Especially if you have the stores for free! Awesome
I think that if the cost were $40, the demand would be higher. It’s tough to sell a “no-name” deck for $50. Especially to ask someone to buy it without seeing the quality or having it in-hand. That’s my big complaint with BoardPusher.
im in!!
I agree this would be pretty cool. I would actually like to see the site be based more around this idea. Still having contest. But the stores being more the focus here.
Great idea!!!
I am in
Not to get ahead of you, but would it be possible to offer the slip on shoes in the same model? I’m just curious if that’s a “popdeck does it all” deal or if it’s a promotional type thing where Van’s does the production making it less feasible on-demand
Designer shoes sell on ebay all day—that would be hot hot hot at popdeck.
How do you get designer shoes made?
This sounds like a great idea. having your own store seems like the next logical step. As long as the contest and voting portion of popdeck continue to be the main focus.
sounds abosolutely sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nice
what about wheels? nice idea
We are in the process of getting this going. In the mean time if you guys want to throw out suggestions. Here are some great ones we got from Richter, to get the ball rolling:
• As much freedom as you can offer with the shops appearance (html).
• Ability to sell the boards on your personal site with html for each design that is preview and a link to that boards details and point of purchase it Popdeck.
There could be some distraction for everyone would like to have the high chance to get some dough rather than a low chance to make some big dough
In other words people are just gonna submit to their stores so my solution is
Once you get XX amount of sales you can enter the design into a contest and if you win the ratio becomes higher, 40/60 etc…
It might be a leap but you can try it.
Great idea, would this be something anyone could join? or would it be more exclusive and have a cut off after a certain amount of stores?
Once there is xx amount of stores newest members have to pay a little (5$ a month) and the more they sell and or win competition the price goes down and ratio up!
We are looking for people that want to be a “featured shop” on launch. If you are interested, please post here. We would ask that you have 6 skateboard designs and 3 wheel designs ready for launch.
I think I would be in.
I nominate… Wotto, Los & kennybanzai for starts. They consistently produce top quality designs and are very active in this and other online communities. I know there are a few more heavy hitters out there!
I’m in. Do you need board designs emailed? Is there still a limit of 5 colors or are we free to use more? Could we add shoes and shirts to our store too? And when do you need to see the 6 deck and 3 wheel designs by? Sorry! so many questions! thanks!
We do not need boards emailed. When the section is up, you’ll be able to upload them yourselves. No color limit. No shoes for the time being.
sweet! Thank you
I would be interested in the launch of this. what is the timeline in getting 6 designs ready? I’m also interested in what the printing process of these decks are?
Are they screen printed or is it some new kind of digital transfer to make it more economical to print. Probably a dumb question, I can’t see screen printing everybodys decks
I would say it has to be digital transfer but my question is what is the quality of the print?
Yeah, I wonder about that as well.
One other question I have, do the artist retain the rights to the artwork? For example if I have a tshirt line and I would like to use a design that I also have printed on my tshirts can I do that?
This sounds cool!
We have been working with our printer for months to develop a top quality digital print and you guys will not be disappointed. If you want to see the quality, you should buy I Love Rain:)
You would retain the rights, all we ask is that you don’t and it isn’t sold as a skateboard design elsewhere.
when do we start?
awesome! what’s the timeline?
can’t wait
Thats a awesome idea! I cant wait. :D
I’m in!
Also, if you DID bring in the option to sell shoes…eventually…that would be crazy!!
Just a thought, you might want to look at maybe doing stickers/decals.
The likes of ‘Decalgirl’ might be drifting away from the whole skate scene,
but could be an option in time??
also we need a source of advertisement so im hyped to put it on my site and other blogs… just would like some ideas of what to write so it wont be spamish.
like should i put sumthin bout the stores so people go to it faster or should I not make any promises.
wow this is big
is that what i should put?
When you say “No color limit” would that mien we can do hi-rez photo decks ??
yep you got it
lets get this ripping already
yeah! i have a design ready!
on paper
that is amazing
nice!
goodbye paint decks im goin with photoshop!!!(elements 6)
Would the owner of the store be able to purchase their own decks at production cost ($40)? Some people/companies may already have their own store and not want to have their customers visit 2 different stores to order.
Yes that is a good question. Wholesale options would still be available.
Excellent idea guys, cant wait to see it in action!
When will the store available for the designers/artists?
early to mid August.
I´m doing sex wees I´m getting so excited. Is there a limit for designs? I´m gonna try and have at least 3 ready. Want more tho
sex wees?
So it’s a go then, great…..
Thank you popdeck!
There will be no limit on number of designs.
“There will be no limit on number of designs”
WHAT!!!!!
Launch for the member stores will be the second week of August. Things are looking good so far.
Wow, an actual date! Cool, I’m excited to contribute. This is a neat concept.
so pumped about this!
